ABOUT COMMUNITYAMERICA

The Credit Union Difference

What is a credit union?

Credit unions are rooted in the tradition of people coming together to help each other and have been around since the turn of the century. Credit unions were formed out of need because many average working families did not have enough money to make it worth a banker's time to serve them. In order to get access to banking services, groups of people banded together and formed credit unions.

Credit unions are owned by the members who share in the organization's financial success. Since credit unions are not-for-profit entities, profits are returned back to members in the form of competitive interest rates, low fees and even cash back dividends at the end of the year. Over the past 10 years, CommunityAmerica has returned more than $14 million to its members in cash dividends.

Credit unions are also governed by a volunteer Board of Directors drawn from its members, friends and neighbors. As members of a credit union, the Board of Directors understands the credit union difference and what makes it special. As a result, you can always have confidence that your Board of Directors is placing the members' best interests first.

Today's credit union may look like a bank, but the credit union difference remains clear and compelling.
