CommunityAmerica Elects Chicago Entrepreneur, Civic Leader to Board
Allison Waggoner will lead Kansas City area credit union.
Lenexa, Kan. ( 05/30/2006) -- CommunityAmerica Credit Union has elected Allison Waggoner as chairman of the board, a position she has accepted in addition to her role as co-owner of a start-up business based in Chicago.
Distance is a not factor for Waggoner or for CommunityAmerica.
For Waggoner, the new role continues service begun in 1991, when she joined the board of Yellow Financial Credit Union, the credit union serving staff members of her employer at the time, Yellow Freight, now YRC Worldwide. Yellow Financial Credit Union later became part of CommunityAmerica.
"I believe in the importance of credit unions to the financial landscape. I am honored to accept this position with CommunityAmerica and will work diligently to help the credit union continue to grow and serve its member," Waggoner said.
For CommunityAmerica, a $1.5 billion financial institution, Waggoner's leadership will be a driving force in delivering member-owner value. "Allison's roots are here in Kansas City and her knowledge of our growing metro area, coupled with her commitment to excellence demonstrated in the various roles she has served on the board including secretary, treasurer, and member of the executive committee, make her a perfect fit for CommunityAmerica as it continues to deliver member benefits unique to credit unions" said Dennis E. Pierce, CommunityAmerica's chief executive officer.
Pierce added that her residency in Chicago is indicative of the national character of CommunityAmerica, which includes 122,000 members in all 50 states. "We believe it is essential that we include board members who live and work elsewhere in the nation thus bringing a national perspective to the board," he said. "Waggoner's role in this regard provides insight that works for the benefit of all of our members nationwide."
Waggoner worked briefly in the insurance industry before moving to Yellow Freight, where she held various positions in pricing, sales and logistics and was successful in leading efforts to develop and implement costing systems and logistic products.
She later moved to the telecommunications industry, working with major wireless service providers to develop new wireless networks.
In 2005, she became a co-owner, with her husband, of a new start-up transportation management software company, SelectTrans, that also provides consulting services to shippers and logistics management companies.
Waggoner holds bachelor's degrees in business administration and Spanish from the University of Kansas and a master's degree in business administration from Rockhurst University.
In 2003, Waggoner attended the Kellogg School of Management's Executive Program for Women's Director Development, which prepares woman in senior-level executive positions for effective service on the boards of Fortune 1000 companies. She is networked with key executives in Chicago and develops relationships for not-for-profit organizations sponsorship. She has served in key positions on school boards, community boards and other not-for-profit boards including the Chicago March of Dimes Signature Chef Event.
