CommunityAmerica Will Make One Lucky Fan an All-Star
Bat boy or girl spots, other prizes offered for Northern League All-Star Game celebration
Lenexa, Kan. ( 06/18/2006) -- Have you ever dreamed of suiting up for a baseball All-Star game? That dream will come true for the winner of a contest sponsored by CommunityAmerica Credit Union.
"The Northern League All-Star Game in Kansas City, Kan., next month is shaping up to be the keynote community celebration of the summer," said Sean Yokley, vice president, corporate affairs, at CommunityAmerica Credit Union, presenting sponsor of the game. "We are thrilled to be able to offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be an All-Star."
The grand prize winner will receive All-Star treatment before, during and after the Northern League All-Star game at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, home of the Kansas City T-Bones, on Tuesday, July 18. In effect, the winner will be treated like a member of the All-Star team, including lodging at the All-Star team's hotel and red-carpet treatment at All-Star Game events and celebrations.
Yes, that includes an All-Star team uniform and a dugout seat during the game.
"It's quite a package," said Rick Muntean, vice president and general manager of the Kansas City T-Bones, host team for the game. "Can I sign up?"
Anyone can enter by completing an entry form at any CommunityAmerica branch between Monday, June 19, and Sunday, July 9. The winner will be announced on July 10. Entrants need not be members of the credit union.
The contest will feature several other prizes, including selection of two bat boys or girls for the Celebrity Game and two bat boys or girls for the All-Star game. Youth aged 12 to 17 are eligible. Also, eight individuals who enter the contest will be chosen to play in the Celebrity Game, and 10 ball shaggers will be named by Reviving Baseball in the Inner City, the youth baseball and softball program operated by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City.
The grand prize winner and a guest will receive two nights lodging at the All-Star team hotel (the Hyatt Regency Crown Center) and will travel with the teams from the hotel to CommunityAmerica Ballpark and return for both the All-Star Game and, on Monday, July 17, a Celebrity Game and a Home Run Derby. The Celebrity Game will feature former Major League Baseball players including Willie Wilson and Bob Dernier, among others.
A clubhouse locker - complete with a uniform - and a pine seat of honor will be reserved for the winner, as will a spot in the home team's dugout. Following the Celebrity Game, the winner will rub shoulders with players and dignitaries at a private Northern League reception.
On All-Star Game day, the grand prize winner will join the teams at the Northern League All-Star Luncheon featuring guest speaker and baseball ambassador Buck O'Neil. The winner also will join the All-Stars in a tour of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. At the All-Star Game, the winner will be introduced along with All-Stars and will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The winner also will be invited to attend a private reception with the teams following the game.
The grand prize winner also will receive tickets to the games, the luncheon and the reception for family and friends.
